The Print Production Workflow: Printing, Die Cutting, and Print Finishing
Industrial paper cutting is a foundational step in print finishing. Whether trimming large press sheets before printing or cutting final products to size, a heavy-duty guillotine is vital to the commercial print workflow.
1. The Printing Process
The manufacturing process almost always begins on a large-format offset lithography or digital press. Because it is more efficient to print multiple small items (like business cards, flyers, or box blanks) on a single large sheet of paper or cardboard, the output of the press is a stack of oversized, "multi-up" printed sheets.
2. Print Finishing (The Guillotine Cutting Process)
Before these sheets can be folded or die-cut, they often need to be squared or separated. This is where the Perfecta Seypa 115 Guillotine Cutter performs its heavy-duty task:
- Loading & Alignment: A thick stack of printed sheets is placed onto the machine's flat air-table. The operator uses a motorized "backgauge" to push the stack forward to the exact required dimension.
- Clamping: A massive hydraulic press lowers onto the stack, applying tons of pressure to compress out any air and hold the paper completely immobile.
- Cutting: A heavy, angled steel blade slices down through the stack in a single, smooth stroke. This ensures every sheet in the stack has a perfectly straight, razor-clean edge.
3. The Die Cutting & Folding Process
Once the large sheets have been cut down to manageable, perfectly squared sizes by the guillotine, they move to the next stage. If the product requires a complex shape (like a folding carton or presentation folder), the squared sheets are fed into a flatbed die cutter, which punches out the specific contour and creases the fold lines. Finally, folder-gluer machines assemble the blanks into finished 3D products.
