The Packaging Workflow: Printing, Litho-Lamination, and Die Cutting

Creating high-end corrugated boxes—like appliance packaging, wine boxes, or retail displays—requires combining the structural strength of corrugated board with the visual appeal of commercial printing. Here is how this laminator fits into the industrial workflow.

    1. The Printing Process

Because you cannot easily print high-resolution photographs directly onto bumpy corrugated board, the graphics are instead printed onto high-quality, flat paper sheets (the top liner). This is done using large-format offset lithography presses.

    2. Print Finishing (The Lamination Process)

This is where our Large Paper Lamination Machine comes in. It takes the printed paper sheet and glues it precisely onto a thick backing board:

    • Feeding: The machine simultaneously feeds the printed paper sheet and the bottom substrate (cardboard or up to 10mm corrugated flutes).
    • Gluing: An even, thin layer of cold glue is applied to the tips of the corrugated flutes.
    • Registration & Mounting: The printed paper is dropped perfectly onto the glued board so the edges align.
    • Long Pressing Unit: The newly joined board travels through a long compression conveyor. This sustained pressure ensures the glue bonds securely without crushing the delicate corrugated flutes, resulting in a perfectly flat, warp-free sheet.

    3. Die Cutting and Final Assembly

Once the laminated boards have cured, they are transferred to a heavy-duty flatbed die cutter. A custom steel-rule die punches out the box shape and scores the fold lines. Finally, the flat blanks are run through a folder-gluer machine to be folded and glued into their final 3D shape.
