The Packaging Workflow: Printing, Die Cutting, and Print Finishing

Creating safe, perfectly aligned boxes for the food and pharmaceutical industries is a rigorous multi-stage process. The folder gluer is the critical final piece of this industrial puzzle.

    1. The Printing Process

The workflow begins on an offset printing press. Large sheets of virgin cardboard (required for pharma and food) are printed with high-resolution branding, nutritional facts, and regulatory information. Special care is taken to use migration-free inks and food-safe coatings.

    2. The Die Cutting Process

Once printed, the sheets go to an automatic flatbed die cutter. Here, a custom steel-rule die punches out the exact shape of the box and presses "crease lines" into the cardboard where the box is meant to be folded. The waste material is stripped away, leaving a flat carton blank.

    3. Print Finishing (The Folder Gluer Process)

The flat, die-cut blanks are then fed into this Folder Gluer Machine at high speeds. The machine performs several sequential steps in the blink of an eye:

    • Prefolding: The machine deliberately over-folds and then opens the 1st and 3rd creases of the box. This breaks the resistance of the cardboard, making it much easier for automated packaging machines at the pharma/food plant to "pop" the box open later.
    • Crashlock Bottom: A series of hooks and guides automatically fold and apply glue to the complex bottom flaps, creating a secure base that snaps into place automatically when the box is erected.
    • Turning & Flap Devices: These specialized attachments allow the machine to rotate the blank or fold challenging internal flaps (like partition walls inside a medicine box) without slowing down.
    • Final Folding & Gluing: Extrusion guns or glue wheels apply adhesive to the side seam, the belts fold the carton perfectly in half, and the finished boxes are kept under pressure in a delivery compression section until the glue cures.
