The Cardboard Packaging Workflow: Printing, Die Cutting, and Print Finishing
Producing high-quality cardboard packaging is a multi-stage industrial process. The Victoria V820 acts as the core structural converting unit, transforming flat printed boards into foldable 3D box blanks.
1. The Printing Process
The manufacturing process begins in the press room. Standard paper or cardboard sheets (up to 82x65 cm) are fed into a commercial offset lithography press. Here, high-resolution graphics, text, and branding are applied using CMYK inks. Coatings (like aqueous or UV varnish) are often applied over the ink for protection before the sheets are stacked.
2. The Die Cutting Process (The Victoria V820 Mechanism)
The stacked, printed sheets are moved to the automatic die cutter for cardboard. The Victoria V820 streamlines this entire stage:
- Automatic Feeding: Suction cups lift individual sheets from the input stack and feed them perfectly aligned into the machine's gripper bars at high speed.
- Die Cutting & Creasing: The sheet is pulled over a flat wooden die embedded with sharp steel cutting rules and dull creasing rules. Tremendous, rolling pressure is applied to punch out the exact shape of the box and press in the fold lines simultaneously.
- Automatic Delivery: The cut sheets are automatically pulled out of the cutting section and neatly stacked on the delivery pallet, ready for stripping and folding.
3. Print Finishing & Folder Gluing
After the waste cardboard (matrix) is stripped away from the cut sheets, the resulting flat blanks are fed into automatic folder-gluer machines. Fast-moving belts fold the carton along the precise creases created by the Victoria V820, and extrusion nozzles apply glue to the side seams. The finished cardboard boxes are delivered flat-packed to the client.
